Why Watching a New National Netball League in Action on TV Is Beneficial

Admin User - Sunday, February 12, 2017

A new era of netball is set to begin in Australia on February 18, 2017.

This date will mark the start of Suncorp Super Netball, a new netball competition among eight teams.

A league transformed

The new Australian national netball league first stemmed from Netball Australia's announcement in May 2016 that it would be parting ways with Netball New Zealand and the ANZ Championship.

Eight teams emerged as the members of this new league: the five existing teams (the Adelaide Thunderbirds, Melbourne Vixens, NSW Swifts, Queensland Firebirds and West Coast Fever) plus three new teams (Giants Netball, Magpies Netball Club and the Sunshine Coast Lightning).

Five members of the Australian Netball Diamonds, the country's national netball team, have joined one of the new teams (Collingwood Magpies Netball) for the inaugural season: Sharni Layton, Kim Ravaillion, Madi Robinson, Caitlin Thwaites and April Brandley.

The inaugural match will pit Giants Netball against the NSW Swifts at Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre.

A welcome change

One key detail among the changes and events brought about by the new national netball league is that broadcast partners, Nine Network and Telstra, were introduced.

This means that the Suncorp Super Netball competitions would be televised — two games live each week on the Nine Network and the remaining two games live through Telstra TV.

Broadcasting the games presents a few important advantages for enthusiasts of this popular sport:

They can see for themselves how professional players tackle the game.

For individuals who are still considering whether to try netball or not, being able to watch the professionals battle it out on TV can be significantly helpful. They will be able to see how seasoned players tackle the game and what level of physical activity is involved. For beginners, enthusiasts, and more advanced players, the broadcasts can fuel their interest in the sport.

They can pick up helpful information by listening to the commentary during the games.

Aside from being able to see the moves actually being played out, locals can listen to the commentary during the televised games so they can gain better insight into the strategies (both successful and failed) employed by the different teams.

They can become more inspired to engage in netball games upon seeing the audiences' support and love for the televised matches.

Finally, TV broadcasts of netball competitions can stir up excitement for the games. As the number of the sports teams' fans increases, people can cultivate a love for the game which can motivate them to continue watching — and even try out the sport for themselves.

Melbourne Social Netball offers excellent venues for anyone eager to participate in the sport. You can take your pick from the available venue options (Riverside Golf and Tennis Centre, Flagstaff Gardens, Melbourne High School, Richmond Recreation Centre, and Ryan’s Reserve) and play just like your favourite professional players do on TV.
