I am pleased to extend and share my experience of being part of the terrific team of umpires supported & trained by Melbourne Netball. Having not played or umpired netball in 20 years, I was seeking an organisation that would encourage, develop and provide me with the tools and support I needed to attain my 'c' grade umpires badge. I sought the advice from a number of friends who recommended Melbourne netball and was immediately impressed by their well developed and easy to follow website. Clare Heasly the Managing director rang me for a chat and I found her to be very friendly yet professional in her approach. I have now been part of the trainee umpire team for 12 weeks. Having spent many hours trying to decipher the official rule book, Clare's team have made life so much easier by providing well structure, easy to follow explanations and clarification of all rules and regulations. I am feeling more and more confident in preparing for my theory and practical tests. In addition to the theory, I have found their workshops, training materials and support on and off the court to be central to me looking forward to umpiring every week. I fully encourage anyone wanting to attain an umpires badge to join the team, as the support and encouragement is like no other you will experience at the local association level.

Melbourne Netball Trainee Umpire

I had done some umpiring when I was a teenager and after playing in a team at Melbourne High for a few years, I got the urge to try umpiring again. The thought of getting paid to exercise (and do something I enjoyed) made me register my interest with Melbourne Netball. Within a few days I received a call to start a trial and from there I completed about 6 weeks of on court training before I umpired my first game solo. I was trained by Dim, one of the senior umpires, who is an extremely experience umpire and a great trainer. The feedback received each week helped me to improve my umpiring skills and gave me the confidence to go for my C Badge a few months later. Even though I am now qualified, there is still ongoing support, feedback and training to help better my umpiring skills which makes me feel great and part of the team.

"I have only been umpiring with Melbourne Netball for a month and a half and so far my experience has been a very enjoyable one. I have never umpired before, but have played netball at a high level so I was very familiar with the rules of the game. Melbourne Netball has allowed me to proceed with the training at my own pace, while providing constructive feedback after every game umpired and support from umpires who have had years of experience. The online training along with the training journal supplied me with insight and a focus which I would not have received if I was training with a netball association.
